Under the patronage of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; the UAE Athletics Federation will host the regions first ever womens only 5K run. To be held on October 22, 2010, the 5k Womens Fun Run will reinforce Dubais status as the Sports Capital of the Middle East.
The spectacular event will host women from across the region and is a celebration of the spirit and strength of women and highlights the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Organized as a fun social event, the race will start at 8.30 am
Announcing the event, Ahmad Al Kamali, Chairman of the UAE Athletics Federation, said:We encourage all women in the UAE and the region to participate in this fun event which is a testimony to their indomitable spirit and stresses on the importance of leading a healthy active lifestyle. It is open to women and girls of all ages and is intended to be an event that they can enjoy with their friends and family members. Often women, with their many responsibilities at home and at work, hardly find any time for sports and fitness activities. The 5K Fun Run will help to bring Arab women to the forefront of sports and encourage them to include fitness activities in their daily routine. And to be held as an annual event every year.
The winners will receive a cash prize.
Commenting on the events importance to Dubai, Al Kamali said: Today Dubai is widely considered to be the region’s sports capital. The numerous world-class tournaments and conventions that are held in this emirate over the last several decades is a proof of this. The history of Dubai is also a history of a sporting culture. Traditional sports like horse racing and camel racing have been inherent features of the culture of Dubai. Dubais reputation is now being increasingly linked to many sports events held here. These events not only attract large numbers of competitors, sports enthusiasts and fans from around the world, they are also attracting increasingly larger numbers of Arab sportsmen and women.
The 5K Womens Fun Run will further strengthen Dubais position in the world sporting arena and will encourage Arab women to consider actively participating in sports.
The 5km Womens Fun Run is supported Shape Middle East.
